The Church
& Human Rights In Latin America : An 11 page research paper on the role that
liberation theology has played in developing human rights in Latin America. The Latin
American Catholic liberation--theological perspective is described as one important voice
in the emergence of a new global ethic centered on human rights. It is strongly connected
with the defense of the rights of the poor to a better life and of indigenous peoples in
the Americas who have been profoundly hurt by several centuries of colonization. The
rights of the poor in Latin America and theology's efforts to provide them with the same
human rights as everyone else-- are explained in considerable detail. Bibliography lists 5

Women in Colonial Latin America : a 6 page
research paper which examines the role of women in colonial Latin America. The colonial
world of Latin America was intrinsically different from that of North America and this
difference had a tremendous impact on the women of Latin America at that time. Although
North America was rich in natural resources, the natives of North America did not have the
gold of the Incas or the Aztecs. Consequently, the Europeans that came to North America's
shores came to colonize-they brought women with them. Those early Europeans, specifically
the Spanish, that came to Latin America did so solely for the purposes of exploitation,
not for colonization. Because of this, the Spanish conquerors typically did not bring
women with them from Europe. The writer argues that the native women in colonial Latin
America were viewed by Europeans as simply one more resources that they could exploit.

Latin-American History :
A 4 page look at issues concerning the Pre-Columbian Americas. The writer stresses
that fact that civilizations covered the continent long before the arrival of the
Europeans and never considered themselves to be "of the Americas." The journey
of Columbus was only a "landmark" event from a Eurocentric perspective. Of

realistic and mythical elements to create a strangely familiar world. The fantastic
qualities of magic realism are found most predominantly in Latin-American works that came

The Economy of Brazil: The economy in Brazil
and much of Latin America is very near collapse, despite past political and economic gains
in the region. The poor performances will result in more poverty and delayed economic
growth. The primary responsibility for the economic condition lies with the political
structure, however, the private sector has possessed the means to hedge against or even
benefit from inflation through dollar accounts and overnight accounts. There is no support
for change from either the general populace or from the business sector that would provide
incentive for the political structure. Inflation has played a major role in the
interaction between the economy and the political support for positive economic policies.
The 'Real Plan' was initiated in 1944 as an attempt to curtail substantial price
increases. Political decisions, then and now, have negatively impacted well-intentioned

between 800 and 900 A.D., this great empire suddenly collapsed. Archeologists have debated
about the causes of the collapse; with overpopulation, disease, insect plagues, peasant
revolts against the ruling classes (civil wars), and climate change being among the
conditions theorized as being responsible. Warfare leading to the balkanization of the
culture is said to have effected the fall as well. Recently, the discovery of a major
volcanic eruption has increased the probability of weather playing a large role in the
collapse. Beginning around 800 A.D. the Yucatan suffered a severe 200-year drought. It is
likely that a combination of all of these influences came together to bring about the fall
of the Mayan Empire. This 10 page paper examines the possible causes, with an emphasis on
warfare and drought. Bibliography lists 12 sources. Maycoll.wps

NAFTA : 30 pages in length. The North American
Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was established as a means by which Canada, Mexico and the
United States could effectively bolster their economies, their work forces and their
political status. In more finite terms, it was formed to promote a climate of fair
marketing, improve investment opportunities, protect industrial and intellectual property
rights, as well as establish procedures for the resolution of disputes. Going in, there
were a number of concerns voiced by those who did not believe the Agreement would hold to
its promises even before it was implemented; others had full confidence in its ability to
benefit all countries involved. Several years have passed since the treaty was executed.
How has it stood the test of time? Is there a future for it and other similar agreements
that are waiting in the wings? Industry analysts are divided as to whether or not NAFTA
